January has been an unpredictable month, at least in the weather department!

There have been some good new stories including the return of NHL hockey.
It seems, however, that the negatives have outweighed the positives. Terrorist actions and gun violence make the headlines each day. As I have been watching some reruns of the West Wing, it is disheartening to realize how little the world has changed from the fictional portrayal of conflicts to the real-life political conflicts today.
Ironically, with the United States celebrating the second inauguration of President Obama coincides with the MLK Day of Service.
In consideration of these events and in memory of the pacifist efforts encouraged by Dr. King, I decided to share a photo of this little "peace" gem from our Christmas tree.
This little Peace sign took a central place amidst the lights and garlands. The tree has been taken down but I have saved this card to use again.
Actually, after hearing all the disturbing news stories, maybe I will just keep this card in plain sight, for a reminder each day.

Well said, my friend. I love to play "Let There Be Peace on Earth, and Let it Begin with Me" because it is a lovely song, but mainly because of the second portion of the title. I believe peace on earth is entirely possible, if it is possible IN me. Then, even in the most violent of circumstances, I can still hold fast to it or at least, not contribute to the mayhem. I love Mohandis Gandhi for living that insight to prove it is possible.
Jane, that is one of my favourite songs too.
Gandhi inspired so many, including MLK.

i wanted also to tell you that i just read your 2012 From the Deck. i like what you did with the stones and images (i like the images a lot—i do miss snow and i really miss being able to take photos of snow —okay maybe only for a couple of weeks. . . . still . . . .) . and. altho it was January 2012—it feels like now January 2013. i like that too.

This past week was the coldest one in a long time so I am very glad to see the sun today and a warmer temperature as well.
Just waiting for family to get back from Hawaii tomorrow & looking forward to seeing their photos. Needless to say, they picked a good week to be away from Ontario! Best to you!
